Centenarian Presented Key to the City
While the City of Elk Grove is preparing to celebrate our 24th “birthday,” some residents have been celebrating birthdays a lot longer. Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen recently joined the Fong family to present a Key to the City to Arthur C. Fong as part of his 100th birthday celebration.Arthur was born in San Francisco on June 16, 1924. He brags that he was one of the founding members of the Flying Eagles, a boys club in San Francisco’s Chinatown. After World War II he studied to become a pharmacist and worked at San Francisco’s Children’s Hospital (now known as CPMC) where he enjoyed being a compound pharmacist mixing formulas for the Neonatal Department. He has been married to his wife, June, for 66 years. They moved to Elk Grove in 2013 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Arthur’s dry sense of humor and excitement of finding a good bargain continue to create many memories for his family members.
Congratulations and happy birthday, Arthur! A key to the city is the highest honor the city can bestow on an individual.Find out how to nominate someone to receive a key to the city.
