Driver located, charged following pursuit SUMTER, SC (Aug. 31, 2024) – A driver, who tried to evade a police stop, is charged and his passenger critically injured following a crash Friday night. An officer attempted a traffic stop at about 8:27 p.m. Friday on North Guignard Drive after spotting a vehicle identified in an ongoing metal theft investigation. A chase began as the driver sped away before losing control of the SUV, which rolled over and crashed at the Alice Drive/Wesmark Boulevard intersection. A female passenger, 56, formerly of Florida, was thrown from the vehicle as it crashed. She was found severely injured. Still inside, the driver managed to get out and run from the scene. After an extensive search by city officers and county deputies, the driver was found in a wooded area near Meadow Circle. Michael Charles Rose, 47, of Council Street, was placed in custody and treated for minor injuries. He was booked at the county detention center and charged by Sumter PD with driving under suspension and failure to stop for blue lights involving in an accident with great bodily injury. Rose also faces a felony driving under the influence charge by the S.C. Highway Patrol. Blood-alcohol content analysis results are pending. His passenger, who was airlifted to a Columbia hospital, remains in critical condition. The S.C. Highway Patrol and its Multi-Disciplinary Accident Investigation Team are investigating the crash. -END-

It’s sick he just left her like that.
Sadly he changed someone’s life for ever due to his foolishness .
Same guy I arrested in 1999.
I hope he is able to access drug court and have a supportive environment that will encourage treatment and recovery.
Yeah the cop that was chasing them I was pulling out of a driveway and the guy almost hit me with the police car behind them with the blue lights going I'm glad y'all got him and nobody killed.
What a fine upstanding citizen
Horrible to endanger someone else's life for stupidity

I seen the truck coming through the intersection flipping it happened so fast I really hope everyone is ok
Vehicle crash, or more specifically a high speed chase by several cruisers down Alice Drive putting innocent bystanders in danger. That kind of vehicle crash.
Are there any updates on the female that was hit and airlifted?
Must have been some really bad dudes!
i hope everyone is okay
Sending prayers 🙏
God help her!

Why chase in an urban area? I can see on Highway but in town you have enough officers what can intercept vs chase down. Lucky it was just one person and not many

Teen wanted in fatal shooting in custody, charged SUMTER, SC (Aug. 28, 2024) – A juvenile wanted in connection with a May shooting death is now in custody and charged with murder and attempted murder. The teen was placed in custody following a brief chase after he was spotted by officers Monday. He is the third person charged in the May 27 shooting death of Tavares Keiwaun McFadden, 32, and injury of his passenger, 28. Because he was 16 at the time of the shooting, the teen is charged as juvenile. The Sumter Police Department, however, has asked that he be charged as an adult. That decision would be made in Family Court. Two other suspects were placed in custody earlier in the investigation and each charged with murder and attempted murder. Curtis Jefferson, 19, of Mayesville, was placed in custody May 29. Fernando Quintez Adams, 20, of Beckridge Drive, Sumter, was taken into custody June 10. Both remain in the county detention center. Information gathered by police indicates McFadden’s car was stopped at the traffic signal on Green Swamp Road at about 7:30 a.m. May 27 when a white sedan drove up alongside and shots were fired before it sped away on South Guignard Drive. Responding officers found McFadden’s car crashed nearby. He was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, who also suffered a gunshot wound, was treated at a local hospital and has since recovered. The investigation is continuing. -END- Approved for media release by Chief Russell F. Sumter County Sheriff's Office (Sumter, SC) really charging him as a juvenile he’s been hiding since May then y’all have to chase him after MURDERING SOMEONE He’s out here acting like an adult. And here’s Sumter kissing on the the cheek asking if he’s okay. He must have give y’all some really good information on someone. Sumter needs better people to run it.
Hopefully they'll try them as adults.
I wish they would put someone in jail for Antwan Dukes murder it's been almost four years and they actually have no care about his life being taken something funny about this the streets talking about stuff and they know it it's hurting the family when they solve all these murders fast but not his we want justice Sumter County sheriff's office remember Antwan Dukes he was and still is loved but Good job on the one's you have solved give us closer Dukes and Andrews family
Were they associates of the victims or was it random??
Glad they got them all.
Wonder if he will get BOND?? Should throw the key away!!
Another young man whose life is in shambles right now. Possibly about to spend the rest of his life behind bars, or a good portion of it anyway
A lot of these murders can be found on social media telling on theirselves by bragging about what they have done!!!
None of them are any good
The punishment for crime does not deter crime
They need to stay in jail because they will only kill others! It’s sad that the youth is so caught up in criminal behaviors and in gangs. Something needs to be done because most of them don’t stand a chance. Sad all the way around.
He sure didn’t act like a child when he took the life of someone! Charge him as an adult!
Why? 7:30am.. just for fun? Where did they get the gun? Sounds like some other adults like parents should be charged
